Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I don't own my own home, so why get insurance?

A: Even though you don't own the dwelling you're living in, it's still incredibly important to protect yourself and your belongings. Tenants Insurance has a wide range of coverage. It will protect you legally, all the way to food in your freezer.

Q: Why is my temporary liability card only good for one month?

A: As an Insurance Broker, we are only permitted to provide a Temporary Liability Card valid for 30 days at one time. You will receive your permanent Liability Card in the mail, prior to the temporary one we provided you expires. Should you not receive it, please call us immediately and we will issue you another temporary Liability Card until you receive final documentation.

Q: Can my newly licensed child drive my car?

A: Absolutely. If he/she would be driving it more than once per week, give us a call for further details on the process of adding them to your policy.

Q: What is the procedure to get a new policy put into force?

A: Once you fill out an application, we will provide you with a quote and inform you of any additional documentation that we may require. Once all documents and a signed application are received, and a payment is made, we will than issue a liability card to you.

Q: How can I make my policy cheaper?

A: When it comes to ensuring your insurance doesn't sky rocket, there are a few things that play apart of that…
You can reduce coverage, increase your deductible and always keep your insurance history active.

Q: Can I get an ATV/Snow Machine policy for 6 months?

A: Unfortunately, the minimum term for a ATV/Snow Machine policy is 1 year.

Q: Does Nunavut Insurance charge a fee for late payments?

A: Yes. Starting February 1, 2006 all late payments are subject to a 1.5% late charge.

Q: We are going to be building a house. How do I insure my home while it's being built?

A: You can purchase a builders risk policy if you will be building this home to live in yourself. This policy must be purchased prior to the foundation being poured or layed. Once the house is built, the policy can be converted into a "homeowner" policy which will provide broader coverage.

Q: Why is my building value so high?

A. In the North, rebuilding costs can range from $200.00 to $300.00 a square foot to rebuild. In the event of a total loss you need to be insured to 100% replacement cost, therefore market value or selling value would not be enough to cover a total loss claim.

Q: I run a small business in my home. Should I let my insurance broker know?

A: Absolutely! Having a business in your home without the insurance company knowing can void your insurance policy. There are limits to business property & restrictions on liability. Please contact our office, no matter how small the business is.

Q: I have a lot of collectibles & fine arts. Are these covered under my home insurance policy?

A: Collectibles & fine arts have limits as to the total amount paid out in the event of a loss, therefore it is imperative that you keep an inventory of these items including the value off premises. Appraisals may be necessary if items are over $2500.00 & special riders may be available for certain items.
